Privacy Policy

Salt is a personal watersport logbook. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what data the app collects, why it's collected, and where it's stored. If anything here is unclear, contact us using the details at the bottom of the page.
Data we collect
The table below lists everything Salt stores about you, grouped by what it's used for.

Device permissions
Salt asks for a few permissions on your device, each used only for the feature named:
- Location (when in use) — to set where a session took place, or to check conditions at your current spot. It is not collected in the background.
- Photo library — to let you attach an existing picture to a session or your profile.
- Camera — only to scan a friend's follow QR code; the app does not use the camera for anything else, and photos taken with it are only stored if you choose to attach one to a session.
Where your data is stored
Salt uses Supabase as its database, authentication and file storage sub-processor. Your data — account, profile, sessions, gear and follow relationships — is stored on Supabase infrastructure hosted in the European Union. We don't run our own servers for this data; Supabase is the only third party that holds it on our behalf.
To show weather and marine forecasts, the app also sends the latitude/longitude and time you're asking about to Open-Meteo, a weather data provider. That request only carries the coordinates and timestamp needed to fetch a forecast — it does not include your name, email, or any other account information.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We don't run analytics or tracking SDKs that build an advertising profile of you.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists, so the app can keep learning from your session history. You can delete individual sessions or gear at any time from within the app. To delete your account and all associated data entirely, contact us at the address below — we'll remove it from Supabase within 30 days.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or a jurisdiction with similar protections, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it's processed. To exercise any of these rights, contact us — we'll respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Salt is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
